Philosophy

Neuron was designed with these criteria in mind:

  • Future-proof: store notes locally1 as plain-text (Markdown) files
  • Not tied2 to a single text editor3
  • Statically generated web site, for browsing and publishing on the web
  • Remain as simple to use as possible
  1. Store your notes however you want. We recommend Git, which enables full revision history of your notes for lifetime.

  2. Text editors should ideally be decoupled, integrating via something like LSP. Both Emacs and Vim have extensions for neuron (see Editor integration). Also see Cerveau.

  3. The upcoming app Cerveau provides a web interface for editing your Neuron notes on Git.
